Mamma Mia Cleopatra!
Mamma Mia, Cleopatra! is an AI-native short film concept created for The Big Screen Hack’s Into the Unknown theme. Set on the Italian Riviera in 1963, the story follows Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton as their glamorous escape after Cleopatra descends into jealousy, amnesia, and surreal murder mystery. Joined by a cast of 1960s-inspired icons including Twiggy, David Bowie, Sidney Poitier, and Emilio Pucci, the holiday spirals after a failed poisoning attempt leaves Twiggy without memory and Pucci is discovered dead beside the giant Death sculpture at a hallucinogenic Tarot Garden party.
The film transforms “the unknown” into something dazzling rather than dystopian. Celebrity identities fracture, memories become unreliable, and performance overtakes truth. A comic Belgian detective named Space Kid, dressed in a silver spacesuit, attempts to solve the mystery while limoncello-fuelled interrogations expose vanity, desire, and emotional collapse beneath the glamour.
Designed specifically for a 48-hour AI filmmaking Hackathon: Big Screen Hack for Cannes Film Festival. The project combines cinematic storytelling with AI-native visual experimentation. Generative tools support surreal environments, unstable memory sequences, and stylised period imagery, making AI central to both the film’s production and thematic meaning. The result is a bold, funny, visually rich short about what happens when image, fame, and identity begin to fail.
